Title description
1 - Two Ways
There are 2 different rhythmns: 3 for 4 and 4 for 4. This kind of synchopation is very present in Cuban music - what gives the original flavor is the other part, which is put to jazz. This song has to do with strong Latin-American cadences, but above all, the influence is Cuban. The contemporary jazz harmony is the added ingrediant giving life to Two Ways. The introduction is an hommage to Eleggua - the Orisha in the Yoruba religion that opens and closes all ceremonies - hence Felipe Cabrera 's demo.
2 - Llegada a New York
The melody line is that of a jazz standard, with a Latin accent. It's the Cuban musician's vision of how jazz could be played. This fusion clearly states its swing.
3 - Bajeando el Guiro
Bajeando el Güiro takes several rhythmns from the bata and harmonizes everything with 6 basses. Three basses are harmonizing with the rhythmn of the bata, 2 basses are playing a chant very well known in the Yoruba religion - in hommage to Chango; the other bass is plays a solo in a jazz style - all put together by a fusion of Afro-Cuban percussions (drums, 3 güiros, 1 conga, 1 campana).
4 - Asi es la Habana
This song is how the fashionable dance music ( timba cubana ) of Cuba is played today: a descarga of a typical tumbao - the difference being that it is instrumental. |
